Porcelain Wares from Imperial Kiln in Kangxi Period of Qing Dynasty

Miscellaneous Enameled Porcelain

The miscellaneous enameled porcelain refers to the ware which is painted with single-colored overglaze patterns on a single-colored background, while the plain sancai refers to a variant of miscellaneous enameled porcelains without red color. The miscellaneous enameled painting can be divided into two types. One is single-colored painting on white glaze, such as white glaze with green or yellow color. Another one is single-colored painting on single-colored glaze, such as yellow glaze with green color, green glaze with purple color, or purple glaze with yellow color. For the plain sancai, the absence of red color is its obvious character. It offers the visual experience of solemnity and elegance to the audience which makes it became well-known. On the foundations of technology in the Ming Dynasty, Kangxi’s plain sancai has further developed and invented blue color out of yellow, green and purple color.
